Adviser banned over false diploma claim

A Tasmanian financial adviser has been permanently banned for making false statements about his qualifications.

Hobart-based Troy Williams is a director of Directions Wealth Management, an authorised representative of Financial Services Partners, owned by ANZ.

An Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) investigation found that from December 2003 to March last year, he provided financial services guides to clients that falsely stated he held a diploma of financial planning.

ASIC also found that in December 2014 Mr Williams dishonestly created false certificates relating to his qualifications and sent them to Financial Services Partners.

The company suspended his authority on March 10 last year and cancelled it the following month.
