More members have been added to the ACORD Australian Life Insurance Steering Committee.

They include Kerry Fullagar of Allianz, Akhilesh Vishwakarma from Asteron, Jimmy Tong of Metlife and Sid Sanyal from Zurich.

CommInsure CIO Anne Garlick is Chairman and Rick Wingfield of AIA is Vice Chairman. 

The committee was formed last year to look at ways to implement common standards for the local life insurance industry.

ACORD Australia Manager Alan Stitzer told insuranceNEWS.com.au the committee is looking at standards for group life insurance first.

“The group is working on the relationship between the super funds and insurers in regard to the underwriting process,” he said. 

“This will look at the coverage of an insurance arrangement between the two parties in a group policy.”

Mr Stitzer says the committee plans to look at direct life insurance and the intermediary market.

Australian general insurers have been working separately on ACORD standards for data- sharing and communications.
