Winter storm hits Europe with $1.4 billion insurance bill
Winter storm Klaus, which cut a swathe across France last month, may cost insurers up to €700 million ($1.4 billion), according to catastrophe risk modelling firm AIR Worldwide.
On January 24 the storm made landfall in south-western France and travelled east through southern France before moving into the Mediterranean about 12 hours later.
The storm was the most damaging of its kind since 1999, causing damage to buildings, flooding and power and travel disruption across southern France and parts of northern Spain.
