Windstorm Emma claims near $2 billion

US Catastrophe risk modelling company AIR Worldwide has estimated insured losses from Windstorm Emma at between €750 million ($1.25 billion) and €1.3 billion ($2.16 billion).

Windstorm Emma sent heavy rain and hurricane-force winds up to 155kmh across central Europe on March 1.

It brought significant damage to residential buildings in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK.

An earlier estimate by Risk Management Solutions suggested a maximum total of €700 million ($1.16 billion).
