US extends airline terrorism coverage

While the British and German governments are pushing for airlines to continue negotiating with insurers on terrorism coverage, the US looks to have agreed to extend insurance support for its aviation operators another 60 days.

Now in excess of around $100 million, the US Government’s coverage of airlines’ third-party terrorism liabilities was meant to run out this week. Like the Association of European Airlines, US airlines are trying to set up their own risk retention group to fund cover against war and terror risks. Marsh & McLennan has offered to assist.
