UK to impose flammable cladding ban

Flammable cladding is to be banned on all new schools, hospitals, care homes, student accommodation and residential buildings above 18 metres.

Housing Secretary James Brokenshire will make the announcement this week at the Conservative Party conference, 15 months after London’s Grenfell Tower fire claimed more than 70 lives.

The ban, which follows a lengthy government consultation, will not be applied retrospectively.

The British Government is already removing suspect cladding from high-rise social housing and is working with those responsible for private buildings.

The new ban will require changes to building regulations.
