UK ramps up flood spend
The UK Government has accepted the key recommendations of an interim report into last year's floods, which caused an estimated £3 billion ($6.75 billion) in insured losses out of £5 billion ($11.2 billion) in economic losses.
Secretary of State for the Environment Hilary Benn has allocated £34.5 million ($75.7 million) of the Government's total £2.15 billion ($4.72 billion) flood defence outlay over the next three years to implementing the recommendations of Sir Michael Pitt's report.
