UK inland flood model sharpens details
The UK continues to lead the way in flood risk mitigation with a new flood model that allows users to zone in on property flood risk by specific street rather than postcode.
US firm Risk Management Solutions (RMS) has released the UK Inland Flood Model to handle all causes of inland flood – from overflowing rivers and minor streams to flash flooding from downpours.
RMS UK Flood Model Manager Alice Stuart-Menteth says recent floods have been a costly reminder of the need for a detailed analysis of flood risk.
“Areas that were not deemed to be at risk by the Environment Agency were washed out by extreme rainfall which overwhelmed the drainage systems, resulting in an unexpected barrage of claims from insurers that had not accounted for flash flood risk,” she said.
