UK business interruption settlements reach $780 million

UK business interruption final claim settlements have climbed to £433.2 million ($787.9 million), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) says in its latest update following this year’s test case judgment.

The FCA says there have also been interim or initial payments of £268.2 million ($487.8 million) for 3632 unsettled claims, based on data published on May 12.

“This means that, at the point of this information submission, 17,527 BI policyholders out of the 36,414 who had had claims accepted, had received at least an interim payment,” the update says.

The FCA figures also include details on the number of claims accepted and settled for individual insurance companies, without providing monetary values.

QBE UK has accepted 2474 business interruption claims for COVID-19 related losses. The insurer has received all the information needed to calculated the total value of the claim for 805 claims. A final settlement has been accepted in the case of 500 claims and an interim payment has been made for 59.

A further 54 claims have been accepted by QBE Europe (UK branch) with two paid in full so far.
