UK brokers left out in the cold

Fiesty British broker leader Andrew Paddick is planning a debate with his own members next month.

Mr Paddick, Director-General of the Institute of Insurance Brokers, says his attempts to set up a new regulatory body for brokers have been hamstrung by government regulators.

New laws governing the insurance industry allow insurers to cancel brokers’ agencies if they have not joined the new General Insurance Standards Council. The brokers’ original statutory regulator, the Insurance Brokers Registration Council, was closed last week. The IIB originally planned to have a replacement regulator operational by May 1, at the same time as it fights against the GISC monopoly in court.
