Swiss Re names new CRO

Bernhard Kaufmann has been appointed group chief risk officer at Swiss Re, replacing the retiring Patrick Raaflaub from October.

Mr Kaufmann has been CRO at Helvetia since November and has held similar positions in the (re)insurance industry for 17 years, including at Munich Re, NN Group and Ergo.

Swiss Re chair Jacques de Vaucleroy says Mr Kaufmann is a “seasoned leader” and “well equipped to navigate Swiss Re through the increasingly complex risk and regulatory landscape”.

The chairman also thanked Mr Raaflaub – who announced his retirement last month – for his “great contributions at Swiss Re”.

Munich-based Mr Kaufmann says he is “looking forward to the next chapter at Swiss Re – joining an outstanding team and contributing to the continued success of one of the world’s leading reinsurance companies”.
