Swiss Re joins Trump’s Paris pullout critics

Swiss Re has reaffirmed the dangers of global warming and expressed regret at President Donald Trump’s decision to pull the US out of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

“We have been researching climate change and its effects for the past 30 years and we can say it is a real threat,” the reinsurer says. “Swiss Re very much regrets President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the historic Paris climate accord.

“Swiss Re regards the Paris Agreement as a key enabler to adopt pre-emptive actions to combat climate change.”

Mr Trump made his announcement last week.

All other nations barring war-torn Syria and Nicaragua, which wanted the pact to go further, are part of the non-binding Paris Agreement to reduce carbon emissions.
