UK business interruption settlements reach $1.3 billion

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) says business interruption claim final settlement payments have risen to £696.2 million ($1.3 billion) as funds continue to flow following a test case decision early this year on pandemic-related cover.

A further £328.9 million ($620.6 million) has been received by claimants in interim or initial payments, according to data collected as of September 5.

FCA says the figures show that 27,247 business interruption policyholders, out of the 42,308 who have had claims accepted, had received at least an interim payment.

The Supreme Court handed down its appeal decision on January 15, concluding a test case brought last year by the FCA over business interruption cover during the COVID-19 outbreak.
