Storm Eunice losses could top $500 million
Insurance losses from Storm Eunice could be around £200-300 million ($378-567 million), PwC UK has estimated after the wild weather tore across the country late last week.
The estimate includes damage to homes and commercial buildings and extensive travel disruptions.
“It was expected that Storm Eunice would be severe and we’ve seen the strongest gusts impacting coastal areas as well as travel disruption with airlines and train operators cancelling flights and entire rail lines impacting travel across the country,” General Insurance Leader Mohammad Khan said.
“As with Storm Dudley, insurance losses will mainly be in respect of damage to homes, commercial properties and vehicles from falling trees and flying debris.”
The UK Met Office issued a red warning covering southeast England and London, meaning a threat to life from the storm, which also caused extensive damage as it moved into European countries including the Netherlands.
