Spitzer reforms cap workers’ compensation
New York’s long-awaited workers’ compensation package has been unveiled by Governor Eliot Spitzer, capping the number of years for which people can claim benefits and raising the minimum weekly benefit.
The raft of new laws governing worker’s compensation in New York is expected to save businesses hundreds of millions of dollars, with Governor Spitzer – formerly the state’s crusading attorney-general – saying employer costs will be reduced by up to 15%.
