Spitzer a step closer to governorship
The man who changed the way US insurers and major brokers do business, New York Attorney-General Eliot Spitzer, has won the state’s Democratic Party nomination to run for Governor of New York in November.
A famous corruption-fighter before he ignited a spate of investigations into insurance industry practices two years ago, Mr Spitzer uncovered bid-rigging and price-fixing between major insurers and brokers, and questioned industry practices involving contingent commissions and finite reinsurance.
Mr Spitzer, who has been Attorney-General for seven years, has for some time been a hot tip to become governor. His main rival is Republican Jason Faso.
