Silverstein puts in WTC settlement offer
World Trade Centre leasee Larry Silverstein, the man at the centre of the multi-billion dollar lawsuit over insurance coverage for the September 11 attack/s, may be willing to reach a compromise with his 20 insurers.
He has been fighting the insurers over whether the destruction of the WTC towers was one or two separate events. If it’s two, he could get more than $13 billion in claims. But if it’s only deemed as one event, he’s only entitled to half that.
Last week he and the insurers submitted sealed settlement offers to a federal judge in New York. . Whether the insurers or Mr Silverstein will prevail – and who is deemed to have lost most – will bring the long-running saga to a conclusion. We’ll keep you posted on the result.
