Scottish independence could harm insurers: BIBA

Some insurers could lose market share if Scotland votes for independence next year, the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has warned.

Smaller companies in England could be deterred from trading north of the border under new regulations, currency and tax, Head of Corporate Affairs Graeme Trudgill told the BIBA Scotland conference.

Scottish brokers on price comparison sites in England may also face problems.

Other issues could include changes to policy wording and contract law.

UK media reports say some brokers at the conference complained that uncertainty about the vote is bad for business, while others argued it is too far in the future to have an impact.
