Risk managers urged to work with risk takers

As organisations face unprecedented levels of change and complexity, risk takers and risk managers must unite to address the upsides and downsides, according to the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS).

Its new report – Risk Taker v Risk Manager – explores goals, responsibilities and the value of collaboration between risk professionals and those in an organisation charged with pursuing new opportunities.

RIMS VP Strategic Initiatives Carol Fox says risk professionals must develop successful relationships with strategic and operational stakeholders.

“Helping executives and organisational leaders make strategic decisions in a more informed way adds significant value and positions risk professionals as strategic advisers,” she said.

“While there are certainly perceived differences between the risk takers and the risk professionals, the report highlights definite actions and characteristics that practitioners can implement to help build strong, collaborative and productive working relationships.”

The report was written by RIMS Strategic Risk Management Development Council member Jessica Wasserman.
