Rising rates lift Arthur J Gallagher

International broker Arthur J Gallagher says profit grew 34% to $US134 million ($148.62 million) in the six months to June 30.

The group achieved organic growth and higher margins across brokerage and risk management, according to Chairman and CEO Patrick Gallagher.

“We are seeing carriers ask for rate increases on most lines of coverage and in most geographies of the US, the UK and in Australia, and our clients are indicating steady but small incremental improvements in their business prospects.”

The company’s total revenue grew 21% to $US1.45 billion ($1.61 billion).

Mr Gallagher says the brokerage had an “outstanding” second quarter. For the half-year, commissions were up 18% to $US727.7 million ($807.11 million) and fees increased 11% to $US508.6 million ($564.1 million).
