QBE, Manulife agree Hong Kong distribution deal

Financial services group Manulife has appointed QBE as its exclusive supplier of general insurance products in Hong Kong.

Under the exclusive distribution agreement Manulife agents will distribute QBE’s travel, motor, home and employee compensation covers.

Canada-based Manulife, which operates as John Hancock in the US, says the deal complements its life, pensions and wealth management products.

While QBE has sold general insurance products via Manulife’s agency channel in Hong Kong for the past 13 years, the agreement provides Manulife corporate and individual customers with a “one-stop solution”.

“It allows QBE to further expand its distribution capabilities through Manulife’s broad customer base and a strong agency force,” QBE CEO Hong Kong Mark Walker said.

“We look forward to further reinforcing our standing as Hong Kong’s top-ranked general insurer and a leader in the corporate and specialty segment.”

The two companies will jointly invest in digital solutions and e-business capabilities.

Manulife will have direct access to QBE’s e-commerce platform Qnect, allowing agents to generate instant quotes, manage policy administration, lodge online claims and track a wide range of commercial and personal general insurance products.

The partners will also work to develop tailor-made general insurance solutions.
