The Willis Research Network (WRN) is partnering with computing firm Mitiga Solutions to provide cutting-edge volcanic ash cloud and sandstorm forecasting to the aviation industry.

The partnership will help both public and private airlines, airports and organisations to predict and mitigate the impact of natural hazards to air traffic management and aviation operations. Barcelona-based Mitiga can assess the extent and height of the impact of these hazards in near-real time.

WRN Senior Research Manager for Earth Risks Dr Rosa Sobradelo says the partnership will provide valuable data insight to WRN clients. It puts the network at the forefront of applied research for volcanic risks.

The WRN was founded by Willis Re as a collaborative partnership between academics and the finance and insurance industries. It works with more than 50 science institutions.
