Mould has reached its peak in US
After about $4 billion in claims, the Great American Mould Disaster seems to be gradually disappearing. While full-year figures for the US are not yet available, reports indicate that mould claims from householders have passed their peak.
The Texas Department of Insurance, whose state was the hardest hit by the fungus found in the insulated walls of relatively modern homes, said the number of claims has been falling since July. Up until the end of September 2002, the mould bill had reached $3.8 billion, compared to $1.65 billion the year before.
Figures are expected to keep falling as claims and losses lead to lower premiums and policyholders renew their policies with reduced coverage.
