Marsh & McLennan profit grows 24%

Diversified insurance group Marsh & McLennan increased third-quarter net income 24.4% to $US917 million ($880 million) compared with the corresponding period last year.

Revenue was up 3.5% to $US8.9 billion ($8.5 billion) in the first nine months of this year.

President and CEO Brian Duperreault says the group has delivered another strong quarter.

“Each of our operating companies continued to generate growth in underlying revenue,” he said.

Global broker Marsh’s revenue was $US4.04 billion ($3.88 billion), up 5.1%.

“Marsh’s underlying revenue grew across all geographies, reflecting solid client revenue retention rates and continued new business development,” Mr Duperreault said.

Marsh’s Asia-Pacific division increased revenue 8% to $US488 million ($468 million).

Europe, the Middle East and Africa grew 3.3% to $US1.4 billion ($1.3 billion) and Latin America increased 6.1% to $US242 million ($232 million).

Reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter’s revenue was $US881 million ($846 million), up 3.9%.

Total risk and insurance services segment revenue in the nine months was $US5 billion ($4.8 billion), up 4.8%. The segment’s operating income was $1.05 billion ($1.01 billion), up 13.7%.
