Lloyd’s updates hurricane bill

Almost $US900 million ($1.17 billion) has been paid in claims for hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, Lloyd’s says in an update.

The market now expects $US900 million in net claims from Maria, which inflicted most damage on Puerto Rico.

Lloyd’s has reduced its overall net claims estimates for Harvey and Irma to $US3.9 billion ($5.06 billion) from $US4.5 billion ($5.84 billion), but cautions the figure may change.

“This is a developing situation and there continues to be a high degree of uncertainty around any claims estimate,” Performance Management Director Jon Hancock said.

“While it is clear these catastrophes will bear a heavy toll, the claims are spread across the entire Lloyd’s market… we must remember the Lloyd’s market is built for moments like this, with governments, businesses and communities all relying on us to help them rebuild.”
