Lloyd's predictor sees England achieving World Cup glory
Lloyd’s has tipped England to win this year’s men’s football World Cup with research conducted alongside the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) deeming the Three Lions to be the world’s most insurable team.
The predictor, which has accurately named the last two World Cup winners, anticipates a Brazil-England final and says the number fifth FIFA-ranked team will upset the tournament favourites.
The research estimates England’s team to hold an insurable value of £3.17 billion ($5.58 billion) ahead of France at £2.66 billion ($4.69 billion) and Brazil at £2.56 billion ($4.51billion).
The researchers used players’ wages, endorsements and future indicators to estimate their earnings for the rest of their careers. These projected earnings are also valued based on the player’s position, age and nationality.
English midfielder Jude Bellingham was valued as the world’s most insurable player, followed by French forward Kylian Mbappe and Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior.
Lloyd’s also emphasised “the need for athletes at all levels and in all sports to consider their insurance protection packages and coverage” by providing access to its market model to allow athletes to assess insurance options.
Lloyd’s, which writes £150 million ($264.20 million) in sports-related Accident and Health policies yearly, says insurance security is needed “at all levels of the game”.
“Insurance can play a key role in building confidence and resilience, knowing you’re covered if the worst happens,” Lloyd’s Chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown said.
“As Lloyd’s goes for the hat-trick of correct World Cup predictions, we’re shining a spotlight on the need for protection at all levels of the game – professional and amateur – to help clubs, competitors and communities make braver decisions both on and off the pitch.”
