Lloyd’s moves into expanded European Community

Just days after 10 new member states joined the European Union last week, Lloyd’s has been given official clearance to write direct business in them. This means the market is now authorised to trade in 72 countries.

Lloyd’s Chairman Lord Levene said the new European licences are an opportunity for Lloyd’s underwriters to “better serve their existing customers while offering new and exciting opportunities to the new EU countries”.
