Lloyd’s has announced General Counsel Peter Spires will step down from his position immediately to “pursue fresh challenges”.  

The departure ends a seven-year tenure as General Counsel for Mr Spires, who had also served on the group’s executive committee. He began at Lloyd’s in 1995, operating in its Reconstruction and Renewal sector.  

Lloyd’s says Head of Legal Claire Schrader will serve as Mr Spires’ interim replacement while it begins its search for a permanent appointment. It also announced that Head of Secretariat and Governance Caroline Sandeman-Allen will take over as Company Secretary on an interim basis.  

Lloyd’s Chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown extended the group’s “best wishes” to Mr Spires for his future endeavours.  

“Peter’s contribution over the last 27 years to both the Corporation and the wider Lloyd’s market has been highly valued, and his expertise and experience has been central to the resolution of many complex issues that have confronted the market,” Mr Carnegie-Brown said.
