Last year ‘third warmest on record’

Global temperatures cooled slightly last year but not by much, according to the latest report from the US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The planet’s average temperature made it the third-warmest year in the administration’s 138-year climate record, behind 2016 (the warmest) and 2015.

However, unlike the previous two years, last year was not influenced by the warming effect of an El Nino. The six warmest years on record have all occurred since 2010.
