Insurers brace for US hurricane season as Colorado counts cost
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is urging people to be fully prepared for the hurricane season, which officially began yesterday.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Centre has predicted a near or above-normal hurricane season, while Fitch Ratings has also predicted an above-average season.
And global reinsurance intermediary Aon Re warns US insurers to implement robust risk-mitigation strategies.
Meanwhile, last month’s tornado and hail storm in Colorado has caused an estimated $US147 million ($154 million) in insured losses, says the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association.
