Insurance for the nobility and gentry

British society guide Debrett’s has moved into providing insurance for the well-heeled individual.

The publisher has joined forces with UK insurer Sterling to offer a prestige product with minimum contents coverage of £75,000 ($113,485) or building cover of more than £1 million ($1.5 million).

To signify this insurance is a cut above the rest, Debrett’s will allocate a portfolio risk manager to each client to help with claims and emergencies.

The manager will also carry a total risk and portfolio review every year and the report will include risks that are not covered.

In the event of a claim, the manager will also help to find replacements even if it is a Cartier watch, an executive jet or an old master painting.

Despite the service being aimed at the wealthier end of the British market, Debrett’s estimates there are more than 135,000 households that would meet their minimum insurance requirements.

Such households would no doubt appreciate the chance to win a 2012 Debrett’s diary, valued at £85 ($128), just for seeking a quote.

Debrett’s has been publishing its handbook on the gentry for nearly 250 years and describes itself as “the modern authority on all matters of etiquette, social occasions, people of distinction and fine style”.
