Hotel bombings force risk management review
A bomb blast killed two people on the Spanish resort island of Majorca at the end of last month and was followed by three smaller attacks a week later.
Earlier in the month nine people were killed following twin blasts at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Aon Crisis Management Executive Director Justin Priestley said hotels were coming under increasing threat from terrorists meaning effective risk management is crucial.
"[Hotels] offer a high concentration of people and will also attract worldwide media attention, all key to ensuring the terrorists maintain their profile and aims," he said.
"Most large hotel groups now acknowledge they are a high profile target and therefore have a corporate responsibility to ensure the safety of their staff and visitors."
Mr Priestley said most global hotel groups were "reviewing their vulnerability".
Aon advises target firms to undertake a global threat assessment and claims a review of crisis management procedure and individual security should be viewed as a routine part of doing business.
"This is an ongoing process and one that requires a constant overwatch of how the threat is changing globally, with a mechanism to enhance security as the threat rises," Mr Priestley said.
