Growth, rein on costs boost Marsh & McLennan

Marsh & McLennan has reported strong revenue growth for the third quarter to September 30, with CEO Brian Duperreault saying all its divisions are growing and the group is maintaining a lid on expenses.

The company’s net profit of $US133 million ($129 million) was down 4% on the previous year, which had been boosted by a profit from discontinued operations. Revenue rose 11% to $US2.8 billion ($2.7 billion).

Mr Duperreault says higher client revenue retention rates and new business development helped grow underlying revenue across all Marsh’s geographic regions and Guy Carpenter generated impressive results. Revenue from Marsh, the largest division, increased by 12% to $US1.2 billion ($1.17 billion).

“Our progress in re-establishing Marsh & McLennan Companies as a global growth company has been excellent, as reflected in our performance over the last four quarters,” he said.
