Fitow wreaks havoc
The name may mean "beautiful fragrant flower" in some parts of Micronesia but Typhoon Fitow has been far from sweet for its Japanese host.
Modellers estimate the Category 1 storm, which passed over the mainland on September 8, caused insured losses of about ¥50 billion ($515 million).
California-based weather researcher Eqecat says there are still some uncertainties that may increase the overall effect, but insured losses are unlikely to exceed ¥100 billion ($1.03 billion).
Because the typhoon passed so close to Tokyo - at one point the storm centre was just 30 miles from the city - it's likely to take several weeks before the full damage is known. Losses from related flooding will also take time to become apparent.
Household insurers are expected to have the greatest exposure.
