Aon has reported a fall in third-quarter net income to $US185 million ($241 million) from $US319 million ($416 million), as expenses increased at double the pace of revenue.

Overall revenue grew 6% to $US2.34 billion ($3.05 billion) in the three months to September 30, but expenditure blew out by 13% to $US2.08 billion ($2.71 billion).

Revenue from commercial risk solutions gained 4% to $US917 million ($1.19 billion) and reinsurance solutions generated $US355 million ($463 million) of income, up 8%.

“Our results for the quarter reflect strong organic revenue growth in our reinsurance business… we expect a strong finish to the year as we head into our seasonally strongest quarter,” CEO and President Greg Case said.
