Expansion costs dent Innovation Group profit

UK claims technology company Innovation Group says pre-tax profit fell 8% to £13.2 million ($24.68 million) in the year to September 30, due to exceptional costs from recent expansion.

The software outsourcer and provider posted a 3% rise in revenue to £209.8 million ($392.37 million).

Last week the group announced the acquisition of EMaC, a UK car service plan business, for £36 million ($67.32 million).

CEO Andy Roberts says Innovation Group has recorded five consecutive years of profitable, cash-generative growth and looks forward to a strong future driven by its organic growth and recent “sensible” acquisitions.

In the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, adjusted profit before tax increased to £2.62 million ($4.89 million) from £1.59 million ($2.97 million) the previous year.

Asia-Pacific revenue fell 10% to £19.2 million ($35.89 million).

The Australian operation had to restructure due to the costs of closing one entity in the motor business. Other exceptional costs related to redundancy and compromise costs amid restructuring of business process services motor divisions in North America and Australia.
