Even real estate groups want Government intervention

Insurers aren’t the only ones wanting US Government backing. The US Real Estate Roundtable has asked Congress to make the Government responsible for terrorist damage that exceeds any insurance-backed fund.

Insurance against catastrophic events is being pushed as essential to get financial backing for new shopping malls or office buildings, including reconstruction in lower Manhattan.

Many of these groups are concerned that if this issue is not covered, it will be difficult to get loans for small businesses, let alone large industries.

Real estate firms with continuing coverage for terrorism may allow cancellation of coverage in the next 90 days leaving many properties operating without the necessary insurance.
