European insurers face compulsory stress test
Europe’s 30 biggest insurers will be stress tested next year to determine their ability to withstand the global financial crisis, according to a leading insurance supervisor.
Thomas Steffen, who chairs the European Union’s Committee of National Insurance Regulators has told European media that while insurers are stable now they may be impacted if the crisis lasts longer than anticipated.
He says the compulsory stress test will be based on their results this year.
