Lloyd’s run-off vehicle Equitas has raised its asbestos reserves by $789 million in response to the increasing number of asbestos-related claims being experienced over the past couple of years. The boost follows a $1.05 million adjustment last year.

A spokesman said the increases have been made necessary by the higher payouts being awarded to mesothelioma victims and expectations on increasing numbers of claims.
