Ebix profits fall

US software provider Ebix has reported a 15% drop in earnings for the nine months to September 30 after making provisions for the settlement of a class action and a possible tax bill.

The $US44.03 million ($46.9 million) profit was made on revenue of $US153.86 million ($163.91 million), up 6%.

Ebix says the higher US dollar in the third quarter cut revenue from its exchange businesses in Australia and Brazil.

The group signed contracts with companies including Swiss Re and AIG but reported lower initial operating margins from businesses it acquired last year and this year.

Ebix faces a class action over disclosures to investors. It has provided for a liability of $US4.23 million ($4.5 million).
