Curfew policy rewards young drivers
An Irish insurer has introduced a curfew policy that rewards young drivers who leave their cars home on Friday and Saturday nights.
The most dangerous driving times are between 10pm-6am on Friday and Saturday nights, so XS Direct is telling drivers between the ages of 17 to 24 they can save up to €1000 ($1747) on their premiums by agreeing not to drive in those periods.
The company’s new “Pumpkin” policy includes an unobtrusive tracker device which is installed in the policyholder’s car and records if it is used on weekend nights.
In the event that the vehicle is driven more than 100 metres within the given times, the insurer charges a fee of €50 ($87).
