Conflicted commissions

About two-thirds of UK risk managers believe contingent commissions create a conflict of interest for brokers.

In a survey by the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers, one-third of respondents called for a ban on the practice.

Britain’s largest broker, Jardine Lloyd Thompson, says it will end contingent commissions from next year.

More than one-third of those surveyed said they would prefer to cut out the broker altogether and deal direct with insurance companies.

About 200 risk managers responded to the survey.
