Cyber specialist Coalition has created a reinsurance intermediary that will build on the group’s knowledge in the area.

The products offered are supported by capacity providers led by specialty insurer and reinsurer Aspen.

“Coalition Re is a new type of reinsurance provider whereby we equip carriers with deeper insights into the cyber risk in their books, which adds value far beyond simply adding capacity,” Coalition head of insurance Shawn Ram said.

The company says Coalition Re builds a bottom-up view to price non-proportional reinsurance contracts accurately, giving cedents the ability to learn more about their cyber policyholders and gain visibility into key risk sources within portfolios 

It also offers a holistic, white-labelled product that includes risk mitigation tools and services, currently available only for Coalition standalone Active Cyber Insurance policyholders.  

Coalition says active insurance helps underlying policyholders before, during and after an incident, unlike policies that do not provide cyber risk mitigation and response.

Aspen head of cyber Bobby Bianconi says the Coalition Re offering will bring clarity to the increasingly complex and critical risk area. “We see a significant opportunity for this new capacity and the unique cyber risk insights that will complement the offer, with Coalition well-positioned to deliver these value-add services to cedants,” he said.
