Claims pile up after Tropical Storm Fay

As Gustav moves in on the gulf states, US insurers are already counting the cost of damage from torrential rains and flooding caused by Tropical Storm Fay in Florida between August 18 and August 21.

The top five insurers in Florida have so far reported 13,795 claims from homeowners, 2127 claims for damaged cars, and 1063 flood insurance claims.
 
At least 12 deaths have been attributed to the storm.
