Canopius appoints catastrophe research head

Canopius Group has appointed Geoffrey Saville to the role of Head of Catastrophe Research to evaluate climate related risk.

London-based Mr Saville, who will report to Head of Risk Strategy & Analytics Paul Wilkinson, was most recently WTW Head of Weather and Climate Risks Research. He also formerly held the role of specialist at the Met Office’s Flood Forecasting Centre.

The insurance industry faces ever-increasing exposure to the complex threats associated with natural catastrophes, Mr Saville says.

“Only through the application of data, technology and scientific research can we begin to truly understand and navigate the interconnected and multifaced risk landscape to deliver nuanced solutions,” he said.

Canopius has underwriting operations in Australia, Bermuda, China, Singapore, the UK and the US.
