In an attempt to tackle misconduct and breaches of law by insurance companies and brokers, US authorities have introduced an online reporting facility.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners database – accessed at www.naic.org – is one of several measures for dealing with broker disclosure issues raised by the ongoing Spitzer investigations.

Others include increased transparency for consumers and co-ordinating efforts to deal with improper conduct.

The reporting process is anonymous, but consumers may provide contact details if they want more communication about the investigations.
