The collapse of Britain’s Independent Insurance has many parallels with Australia’s HIH collapse ­– including major problems for builders.

Although the Independent liquidator has pledged to pay all ongoing fees and expenses, builders around the country are walking off the job. Many claim they have not been paid for amounts up to $600,000, although it’s believed this is mainly due to slower payments due to the liquidation process.
