Broker maps France’s flood exposures
Global reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter is developing a national flood model for mainland France, with completion scheduled for early 2010.
The company is working with hydrological modelling and digital mapping experts to complete flood hazard maps by the end of next year.
Guy Carpenter project manager Manuel Chirouze says a fully operational national flood model will be launched shortly thereafter.
“We expect the model will enable insurance companies to better quantify their exposure to flood for reinsurance and risk management purposes,” he said.
The project incorporates river-flow modelling for 80,000km of rivers and a digital terrain model covering the 547,000 square km of mainland France.
