BIBA unveils flood template

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has launched a template to help homeowners present their flood risks to insurers.

It allows people to record and report residual risk after preventative work has been carried out to their property.

Using the template, homeowners indicate the maximum depth for which a property is protected, the annual probability of flooding, likely sources, flood history of the address and resistance measures undertaken.

BIBA aims to provide a single standard for reporting in flood zones. It developed the template with local governments and other stakeholders.

Head of Technical Services Steve Foulsham says it “will bring benefits to the way customers share information on property level protection with the insurance industry [and] encourage take-up of property level measures”.
