BI will cover government actions

New York Governor George Pataki has introduced legislation creating a new type of business interruption insurance. The law is aimed at businesses which have suffered economic loss “resulting from governmental actions in times of emergencies”.

“Civil authority insurance” is intended to authorise insurers to provide coverage in the event an action of a government authority results in a loss of business income. The requirement for the claimant’s premises to suffer actual physical damage is eliminated.
